No. LED lights do not contain mercury or other hazardous materials. LED's are referred to as SOLID STATE lighting, because they do not require the gaseous materials found on popular Compact Flourscent Lights, traditional flourescent lighting, or other gas-dishcharge lamps. 

• No flicker. Flicker can unknowingly cause eye strain, and is one of the common reasons for office worker fatigue.
• No ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet radiation, commonly produced by flourescent lighting, can destroy products or goods by fading colors. Examples include clothing, paintings, carpets, fabrics, plastics, etc.
• No buzzing sound. Because LED lights do not use a ballast, but instead are powered by a small electronic power source unit, they do not produce a buzzing sound commonly emitted by flourescent fixtures.
• No  blinking at startup. Because LED's are solid state, they are not dependent on gases that need to be electrically stimulated, which many times causes a blinking startup.
• Uniform light color. LED lights produce a uniform color because there is no degradation of gases like those that occur in flourescent fixtures.
